Rainbow Mountain - Vinicunca
1 Day Hike

Cusco |Cusipata - Llactoc - Rainbow Mountain, Vinicunca

The tour starts early in the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel around 4:00 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. to head towards the south of the city of Cusco, until arriving approximately in 1 hour and a half to the district of Cusipata - Paucarpata (3 310 m.a.s.l. / 10 859 ft). where we can have breakfast.

After breakfast, we will travel by car 1 hour more to reach the checkpoint and start the hike from there, at the foot of the sacred mountain of Ausangate, we will begin our hike.

We will hike about 2 hours uphill to Rainbow Mountain (5,200 m.a.s.l. / 17,060 ft.). At a slower pace, it could be 2¾ hours, or if you are really fit and well acclimatized, some people can do it in 1.5 hours.

The hike includes some short breaks where the guide will provide important information about the mountains and the geography of the area.

You may have the opportunity to see some of the local people, including the llamas and alpacas that frequent this area. The trail itself is quite wide and useful for those with vertigo or fear of heights. The hike is best done during the dry season as the trails are not paved.

Upon arrival at the top of Rainbow Mountain, around 9-10:00 a.m., you will have enough time to rest, approximately 1 hour to explore the spectacular views of the surrounding valleys, mountains and to see the highest glaciated mountain in Cusco - Ausangate, whose summit is at an altitude of 6,384 m / 20,944 ft, making it one of the highest mountains in Peru. After giving you some time to take some precious photos. Our guide will give us an explanation about the orography, ecosystem and color of the mountain, he will also share some details about the history of the Incas.

Some last photos of this spectacular mountain and we will start our descent. We will return by the same path for 1 hour to the point where we started the hike where our transport will be waiting to take us back to Cusipata, where we will enjoy lunch.

Finally, after lunch, we will return to Cusco city for another 2 hours and a half drive to Cusco, where we will drop you off at your hotel around 5:30 to 6:00 p.m.
